Business Development – Tenders and Bids

Happy Home Staff is looking for someone to help our Early Years training company with bids, tenders and partnerships. This is a brand new role so the post holder will have the chance to shape and drive the business development function to achieve commercial success within the company.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this post is to establish, build and maintain business development opportunities for our centre. You will identify commercial opportunities that the company can pursue, with a particular emphasis on local authority tender submissions and similar bid processes within the early years sector.
The post’s strategic purpose is to ensure that identified and pursued business opportunities generate revenue, improve profitability and help the business grow. As part of this, you will develop strong working relationships with our partner organisations and local authority contacts. Everything that you do will be focused on positioning the company favourably in certain markets and on enhancing our reputation.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
· To identify viable bidding, tender and partnership opportunities
· To research new business opportunities, including new markets, customers, partnerships and services, and to find new ways of reaching existing markets or customers
· To set a business development strategy/plan for the company
· To prepare, deliver and present professionally written proposals and bid documents
· To work collaboratively with potential customers and partner organisations to establish LSCS as a strong presence in the early years sector
· To understand and organise company data to ensure that pre-qualification and bid submissions are efficiently prepared and successfully presented
· To produce quality documentation in accordance with business development standards
· To report to senior management on the quality, progress and outcomes of tender submissions and other business development opportunities
· To monitor tender notifications, building and maintaining the Tender Library with the most up-to-date content and ad hoc monitoring and reporting on the status of tenders as required
· To undertake other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
Specific Knowledge, Skills & Experience
· Proven business acumen
· Advanced IT literacy (experience/knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
· Experience of business development in the early years sector
· Some experience of working with local authorities and job centres
· Strong verbal and written skills; ability to communicate confidently with a range of stakeholders
· Excellent organisational skills; ability to use data and information to build the company’s business development capacity
· Effective team working and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on collaboration
· Excellent time management skills; ability to work to tight deadlines and manage own workload
· A professional manner, particularly when presenting to senior management and bid decision makers
· Self-motivated and enthusiastic about the transformational potential that the early years sector can deliver.
A business development or business management qualification is an advantage but is not essential.
